Honorary Life Members

The Saskatchewan Agriculture Graduates’ Association (SAGA) may award annually one or two Honorary Life Memberships. An Honorary Life Membership is awarded for exceptional, meritorious, and sustained contributions to society with a strong relationship to the agricultural community in the broadest sense. The contributions do not necessarily need to be made in Saskatchewan and can be made anywhere in the world. Nominees do not have to be ag-grads. Many non-grads have received the award.

The first Honorary Life Memberships were awarded in 1946 to R.D. Kirkham and T. Brydon. Over the years the awards have been given to a very diverse group of people including scientists, farmers, agrologists, community leaders, university presidents, and local entrepreneurs.

The nominee’s success is strengthened by showing a breadth of abilities, ie by having participated in or given support to issues beyond their major interest or strength.

The Honorary Life Membership selection process involves a committee of three chaired by the past-president. The committee makes a recommendation to the executive for approval. The executive then takes the recommendation before the Annual General Meeting for final approval.

The presentation of Honorary Life Memberships is a special highlight at the annual SAGA Reunion Banquet held in January.
